카리브해 Jamaica 후손인 Harry Belafonte는 미국에서 태어났음에도 불구하고 
자신의 음악적 뿌리를 꾸준히 탐구했다. 

서인도 제도의 민요를 배워 훗날 좋은 칼립소곡을  많이 발표한다 
칼립소란 카리브해 지역의 민요로서
 흥겨운 멜로디와 리듬에 사회적 메시지가 
강한 성격을 띤다. 

이곡은 56년에 발표된 대표작 
'Calypso'에 “Jamaica Farewell”,“Day-O”등과 
함께 실려있다.  
국내에선 서유석의“사모하는 마음”번안해 부르기도 했다.
