Chilling, and killing,
My beautiful Annabel Lee.
But our love,
It was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many who were wiser than we.
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

Without bringing me dreams

But I feel the bright eyes

I lie down by the side of my darling,

오랜 아주 오랜 옛날
바닷가 그 어느 왕국엔가
'에너벨 리'라 불리는 혹시 여러분도 아실지 모를
한 처녀가 살았답니다
나를 사랑하고
내게 사랑받는 것 외엔
아무 딴 생각 없는 소녀였답니다
나는 어린애, 그녀도 어린애
바닷가의 왕국에 살았지.
그러나 나와 '에너벨 리'는
사랑 이상의 사랑으로 사랑했었지.
하늘 나라 날개 돋친 천사까지도
탐내던 사랑을
분명 그 때문이랍니다.
옛날 바닷가 이 왕국에
한 조각 구름에서 바람이 일어
나의 아름다운 '에너벨 리'를 싸늘히 얼게한 것은
그리하여 그녀의 고귀한
집안 사람들이 와서
나로부터 그녀를 데려가서
바닷가 이 왕국의 한 무덤 속에 가둬 버렸지요.
우리들의 행복의 반도 못 가진
하늘 나라의 천사들이 끝내 샘을 냈답니다.
그렇지요, 분명 그 때문이죠.

구름사이에서 바람 일어나
내 '에너벨 리'를
얼려 죽인 것은 그 때문이죠.
우리보다 나이 많은 사람
우리보다 훨씬
더 현명한 사람들의 사랑보다도
우리 사랑은 훨씬 더 강했습니다
위로는 하늘의 천사
아래론 바다밑 악마들까지도
어여쁜 '에너벨 리'의 영혼으로부터
나의 영혼을 갈라 놓진 못했답니다
달빛이 비칠 때면
아름다운 '에너벨 리'의 꿈이
내게 찾아 들고
별들이 떠오르면
'에너벨 리'의 빛나는 눈동자를
나는 느낀답니다
그러기에 이 한 밤을
